Story TIME

Award-winning duo Marion Dane Bauer and Ivan Bates bring counting to life with this new sweet story about friendship!

One brown bunny went out one day
to find a friend who'd like to play.

Join brown bunny in search of friends in the forest. Marion Dane Bauer's charming and ryhmic text paired with Ivan Bates's bold illustrations will draw children into a wonderful world of friendship, animals, and counting.

Hop along with Bunny and play peek-a-boo in this gorgeous rhyming hide-and-seek adventure from author-illustrator Holly Surplice! Bunny is having such a wonderfully exciting time during his forest game of hide-and-seek that he manages to miss most of his friends' hiding places. Young readers will delight in spotting all the hiding places as they follow along with Bunny.

Literacy Extenders:
  • Sing little Bunny Foo Foo and have your child get up and hop and dance along as you sing.
  • Ask your child how the little brown bunny must be feeling as you read the story and each group of friends he meets leaves. Ask your child how they feel when they feel left out, ask them then how they could make someone feel better if they seem sad or left out.
  • Act like animals! Ask your child to make the noise of the corresponding animals that little brown bunny meet on each page.
  • Go for a nature walk and look for bunnies or other animals that were introduced in the story.
  • As you read peek a boo bunny...play peek a boo! Older kids still enjoy doing this because they will get to yell BOO!

CRAFT: Make a Peek a Boo Bunny.
  • Print off the bunny coloring sheet and then cut out the image, let your child color the bunny and add cotton, then take the long ears and fold them over so that the eyes are hidden
