STORY TIME April 8th MONEY

Honey Bunny Funnybunny has lots and lots and lots of money. Some she saves, some she spends on herself, and some she spends on her friends. In this delightful rhyming book about spending and saving, the bear gets a chair, the fly gets some pie and, of course, the fox gets some socks.






Little Critter learns the importance of saving money in this charming addition to Mercer Mayer's best-selling line of picture books.

coinsCRAFT: For this craft you will need pink construction paper, scissors, crayons, glue stick, and the following printable. Click on the image below to be redirected to the website where this sheet can be printed off.

  •  First take the pink paper and cut out a pig shape.
  • Next cut out the coins from the printable and let your child color them.
  • When they have finished coloring let them glue them on to their piggy bank.
  • Explain to them which was has the most value and see if they can arrange them in order i.e. Penny, Nickel, Dime, and Quarter.


LITERACY EXTENDERS:
  •  Get out some real change and let your child sort them, let them use their craft as a guide.
  • Count, talk about nickels and counting by 5's. Use pennies as a simple way to start a lesson in subtraction.
  • Play Store and cashier, this type of imaginary play is great for kids to see that in order for them to get something from a store, they must pay for it.
